Women and the Labyrinth of Leadership
An HBR article of the year 2007 https://hbr.org/2007/09/women-and-the-labyrinth-of-leadership suggested that Women’s passage to Leadership positions is not simple or direct, but requires persistence, awareness of one’s progress, and a careful analysis of the puzzles that lie ahead. For women who aspire to top leadership, routes exist but are full of twists and turns, both unexpected and expected. The metaphor acknowledges obstacles but is not ultimately discouraging.
Barriers like vestiges of prejudices, marriage, motherhood, biases, leadership style & the solutions appear contemporary. These challenges & solutions are a reality today,
So the question is, 12 years later – when there is so much talk & noise on the subject WHAT HAS CHANGED.
The latest data reveals that more women are opting out of careers & numbers at the top management levels show no upward traction.
Why does the journey for women to reach senior positions continue to be such a contoured & entangled one ??????
